In this tour we visit a natural ice cave in one of the Vatnajökull outlet glaciers, Breiðamerkurjökull.

A great experience is awaiting those who want to explore the unique atmosphere of a wondrous world of natural ice sculptures and formations.

After about 35 minutes drive on a 4 wheel drive road we head forward on foot for about 30 minutes, following a gravel path before entering the ice cave. The hike is accessible for all in good health. In this tour we do not walk on the glacier.

Gear and safety instructions will be provided before entering the ice cave. 

Iceguide is a local company and our guide has good knowledge of the area. All of our tours are led by experienced, certified glacier guides being passionate for good personal service.

Included is all necessary gear. Your guide will evaluate each time which gear is necessary. Truly adventurous day for adventurous people with rewarding “once in a lifetime” experience! 

Ice caves have become very popular in Iceland and every easily accessible ice cave in the area is likely to be visited by several tour operators and groups every day and at the same time as our tours.

  • Good out door clothing based on weather. Base layer, light sweater-like fleece, and water or windproof top. Light warm pants and waterproof if needed.

Meeting point

The ice cave tour departs from Glacier lagoon (Jökulsárlón) main parking lot, coordinates N64 02.898 W16 10.795.

Distance from Reykjavík is 370 km. Iceguide does not provide any transportation from Reykjavík to Glacier lagoon (Jökulsárlón).

Iceguide does not provide transportation from Reykjavík to the meeting point.

Notice that we do not recommend our participants to travel long distances same day as the tour takes place.

We kindly ask you to be at the meeting point on time. We recommend arriving at least 15 min before the scheduled departure time.

Late arrivals unfortunately will miss out on their reservation and it will result in the cancellation of your booking and a full forfeiture of your booking fee.
