Heinaberg Glacier Lagoon Kayaking &
Breiðamerkurjökull Glacier Hike
Heinabergslón - Breiðamerkurjökull
General Information
Availability: May - September
Join us for a glacier hike on the Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. You will experience the amazing features and nature of the Breidarmerkurjökull glacier overlooking the world famous Glacier Lagoon. Your experienced and certified glacier guide will take you across the ice and show you some amazing ice formations. Showing you all of what the glacier has to offer crevasses, moulins and ice tunnels while explaining the geological history of the glacier and the changes that have occurred the last few years.
You will meet your guide at the Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón) 20 minutes before your departure. There you will receive all the necessary safety equipment: harness, helmet, crampons and an ice axe. If you need you can also rent hiking boots to make your hike comfortable.
You will take a short ride up to the glacier in a super jeep that can take you closer than your regular car. After that you will have a short hike up to the glacier where you will see how the ice cap has changed in the last few years. When you arrive at the glacier you will put on your crampons before hiking up the glacier. Your guide will demonstrate how to walk on the crampons safely.
During your tour you will explore all that the glacier has to offer. From deep crevasses, moulins, glacier mice and ice tunnels.
