Skaftafell
General Information
Availability: All Year
Step into the vertical world with this unforgettable ice climbing experience on one of Vatnajökull’s most stunning outlet glaciers. This tour combines the thrill of climbing natural ice walls with the unique beauty of Iceland’s glacial landscape.
Whether you're a first-timer or looking to push your limits, this is your chance to experience the glacier from a whole new angle, literally!
The tour begins at Hof, where you’ll meet your glacier guide 20 minutes before departure and receive all necessary gear. Helmet, harness, crampons, and ice axe, followed by a brief safety overview.
A short ride on the Tröll Bus takes you closer to Falljökull. From there, a 20-minute walk brings you to the glacier's edge, where your guide will highlight features shaped by the glacier’s retreat, such as exposed bedrock and a meltwater lagoon.
Once on the ice, you’ll learn how to move safely with crampons before starting the ice climbing portion. No prior experience is needed, your guide will teach you the basics of using ice axes and climbing techniques as you ascend natural ice walls in an alpine setting.
This tour offers the perfect mix of adrenaline and scenery for those wanting to explore both the vertical and glacial worlds of Vatnajökull.
